Ketamine for Chronic Pain

One of the most difficult types of pain to control is called neuropathic pain.

  • CAUSES
  • OTHER TREATMENTS
  • KETAMINE INFUSIONS

Neuropathic pain can be caused from many different disorders, these are a few examples of health issues that can lead to or are often associated with neuropathic pain:

  • Diabetes
  • Multiple Sclerosis
  • Amputation
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Disorders of the Spine – herniated discs, compression of nerves/spine, arthritis
  • Chemotherapy Treatments
  • Trigeminal Neuralgia
  • Complex Regional Pain Syndrome
  • Cancer
  • HIV/AIDS

Any time a nerve is directly affected it presents a difficult challenge to health care providers in providing relief. People with neuropathic pain often have their quality of life greatly diminished from shooting, burning, almost constant pain. There are other drugs that are frequently used to treat neuropathic pain but they are not without their own side effects and over time can take a toll on someone’s health.

Looking through the data of over 200 patients an analysis of the research showed a significant analgesic effect lasting anywhere from 48 hours to two weeks.

I think that it's important to state that we understand that everyone is inherently different. That peoples backgrounds and what medications they have used varies incredibly as well as individual biochemistries. Obviously we do not want to give a ketamine infusion to someone every 48 hours for relief of their symptoms, but we certainly are happy to offer our infusion service for people who can attest that it is truly benefitting them in treating their pain. There is plenty of evidence that demonstrate a decreased dosage requirement for opioids and other pain medications when ketamine is used to treat neuropathic pain disorders.
